Horses know about you They can sense you coming by Can smell you As if their noses Stretched back To yesterday afternoon Or the day before Horses As if their necks stretched around the corner They knew you would be coming by They greet you As if they had been waiting for you So happy you've arrived Almost as if they got you here And when you say "See you later" you know They know when that will be You feel safe After you've left them These guardians of the road Horses look kindly on you But their ways are inscrutable You know they have helped you But you cannot say Exactly how they did it But that doesn't matter Horses know what's good for you They also know you don't know this They are very polite Horses know They just know Horses spend their time Ruminating. If you met a horse and asked him what he had been doing This is what he would tell you "Ruminating". |
